Cursor CLI
Cursor CLI is Cursor's headless command-line agent — the same Cursor Agent that drives the IDE, callable from any terminal or CI runner without the editor open. Installed via `curl https://cursor.com/install | bash`, it runs multi-file edits, shell commands, and codebase search against GPT-5, Claude Opus 4.7, Gemini, or Cursor's Composer model.
Cursor launched the CLI on August 7, 2025 in beta, then shipped a major January 16, 2026 update adding Plan / Ask modes, cloud handoff, and one-click MCP auth. With the April 5, 2026 Cursor 3 release, The New Stack wrote that "the IDE is now a fallback, not the default" — the CLI and background agents became the primary surface.
The Cursor Agent pulled out of the IDE and handed to you as a bare shell binary — same brain, no chrome.
